"Say Sew" is an in-progress interactive textile art piece that narrates the story of immigrants in the United States. When the viewers wave their hands at each panel, they hear the voice of an immigrant telling their story.
As an immigrant artist, I intend to amplify the voice of the underrepresented immigrant community. I want to encourage citizens to honor multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusion. I collaborated with a New Jersian nonprofit organization, "Newest Americans," that produces multimedia stories about immigration. It collected stories of different immigrants who participated in Photoville, a photojournalism festival in New York City.
Inspired by those stories in September 2021, I started creating a large quilt made of 13 panels and 78 pieces narrating the story of 26 immigrants.
